We are pleased to have joined with South Seattle College to provide design leadership in the redevelopment of the Duwamish Center into the new SSC Georgetown Campus. The two buildings were designed as a single complex and executed under two separate construction projects.
The Gene J. Colin Education Hall is a 13,000-sf two-story building that serves as the primary instruction and administration building on the redeveloped campus. It features a light-filled lobby with two adjacent classrooms that can be joined to form a multi-use assembly space. The ground floor contains administrative offices and reception areas while the upper floor houses three classrooms and additional administrative spaces. The design was planned to accommodate an addition doubling the area of the building.
Directly adjacent is the 19,500-sf Trowel Trades Building, a single-story tilt-up concrete and metal framed structure. It provides two large, high-bay vocational shops, two classrooms, administrative offices and student support spaces serving the College's concrete and brick masons apprenticeship programs.
These new buildings were designed to respect and respond to the industrial context of their Georgetown neighborhood. The Colin Hall Addition has received LEED Silver certification.
