The 104,000-sf 66th Theater Aviation Command (TAC) Readiness Center at Joint Base Lewis-McChord is the largest and newest Readiness Center serving the Washington Army National Guard. The building provides a state of the art training center that meets the multi-level training and operational requirements for the 66th TAC and its supporting units. While the design reflects the historic character of the old Fort Lewis Historic Cantonment, it is a modern, technology-driven facility that affords highly standardized and cost-effective training to ensure the mission effectiveness of the Command.
To maximize inter-functional efficiency, the building is organized with administrative and classroom functions in a three-story element, with all large-scale and gathering functions in a central two-story element, and the more industrial unit support functions in a single-story section directly adjacent to the military vehicle storage area. The grade and drainage requirements were used to create a "moat," facilitating vehicle stand-off requirements for force protection under UFC-4-010-01.
The Readiness Center, designed to achieve LEED Silver, received a Gold certification and was completed on time and under budget.
